Sensory bins are a forever love in my home. My kids will spend hours playing with a simple set up. And with a 5 year old, 3 1/2 year old and 2 year old…that’s saying something!
I’ve recently seen all sorts of planting play set ups on Instagram and thought I’d hop on the wagon! This set up truly was soooo simple and kept my littles engaged forever – ok, not literally, but forever in kid time is a long time!
We are just getting to the point in spring where we can enjoy the afternoons outside without jackets and I love, love, love it! So, why not bring this bin outside and enjoy a little sunshine while your littles play? Goodness knows we are all in need of some serious Vitamin D after a winter inside! Here is what you will need to get your planting on!

How To
This bin is seriously simple to set up!
- Pour the black beans into your sensory bin covering about 1/2 of the bin.
- Stack flowers (cut into individual stems if they didn’t come that way) on the other side of the bin.
- Add a few shovels and some pots in the middle
- DONE!
Sit Back and Relax
Bring this bin outdoors if the weather allows and soak up some Vitamin D while your littles create away! Or, set it up on a tarp indoors to make a rainy day more fun. Wherever you set it up, your littles are sure to love it!
My five year old filled all of the containers with black beans and then carefully arranged the flowers with varying sizes in each pot. He was so proud to show me each arrangement! When my 3 1/2 and 2 year olds got a hold of it, it was all about the scooping and pouring! They would have enjoyed it just as much with no flowers at all, haha!
Not sure if flowers are your kid’s jam? Try it out!
I honestly wasn’t sure that my littles would really dig the bin, because we don’t really ever have flowers around the house and…let’s face it…flowers are usually associate with girls and I have 3 boys! But, they truly loved it! So, even if you don’t think flowers are your jam, try it out. Your kids might surprise you!
