Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, my sensory bin is where you are!
Hands up if you are in love with sensory bins. We just can’t get enough of them over here! And this sensory bin in particular is so wonderful for my littles. The whole activity included a story, color sort, then free play and lasted over an hour! Perfect for an indoor afternoon activity!
For the time being, I don’t keep our sensory bin out all day. The main reason for this comes in the form of a cute, two toothed 10 month old who is constantly on the move! He gets into everything and uncooked rice isn’t something I’m looking to add to his diet. wink wink

During his morning nap, one of my sweeties actually came to me and said, “Mommy can we please do a Sensory Bin now?” My heart is so happy! That right there is the magic of a sensory bin and why you need to set this up immediately!

Materials
- Sensory bin – I use this storage tub from Target
- Large bag of rice
- tongs, scoops and spoons
- Stars – you can use whatever you want, I just used the foam star stickers we had left over from crafts
- Colored bowls (to match the star colors)
- Twinkle Twinkle Little Star – we have a few versions, but my kids love this Pete the Cat one
My kiddos had so much fun with this bin! Watching them sort the stars by color made me so happy. They were so incredibly focused and quiet. And the best part? There was no arguing! No fighting about whose turn it was to use the tongs, just sweet collaboration. That truly is the magic of a sensory bin. And once the baby stops putting everything in his mouth (we’ll give him a year!), I will probably keep some sort of sensory bin up on a daily basis.
If you haven’t done it before, adding a book to the beginning of a sensory bin adds so much to the activity. After reading Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and discussing stars, the conversations my littles engaged in during play was much more focused. Instead of asking to add his dinosaurs to the bin, my oldest was deep in imaginative play centered around space and the stars traveling. It was a joy to watch!
So, grab some foam stars and give this bin a try! Your littles will think it’s ‘out of this world!’ Haha, too much?!
