The Best Sticker Name Activity for Kids

When we have young kids at home, a skill we are often teaching them is recognizing and writing their name. It is a super important skill to know going into Kindergarten (their name will be everywhere in the classroom, and they will be expected to write it on everything!). But sitting down at a table and writing your name over and over again can get boring. So today, I’ve got an easy way to make name practice fun for your little! Let’s check it out:

How To

This one is a quick set up and should last for quite a while!

  1. Grab your paper roll and a marker
  2. Write your child’s name on the paper in large letters
    • I would recommend using a capital letter only at the beginning, just as they would write their name. For young kiddos, you can use all capitals if you would like, but it’s good to get your child used to seeing their name as it should be written.
  3. Use the painter’s tape to tape it to the wall at child height
    • You want your little to be able to walk right up and stick on stickers without having to reach up
  4. Grab the stickers and your kiddo
    • You can use any stickers that are small enough to fit on the lines. My kids love using the animal stickers, but dot stickers or other small stickers work well too!
  5. Demonstrate how to stick the stickers onto the lines of their name
    • Younger kiddos may stick the stickers randomly on and that is a perfect first step!
    • Older preschoolers should be able to trace each letter with the stickers
  6. Leave it up so they can come back to this activity throughout the day

Do you have a little getting ready for Kindergarten? Then you don’t want to miss this!

Enjoy!

My kiddos love this activity. Even my 9-year-old will ask to make his name if he sees his brothers doing it! There is just something about using stickers that never gets old.

The first few times you do this activity, your little may just randomly stick stickers to the sheet, and that is perfectly ok! They are still working those fine motor muscles by pulling stickers off of the sheet and placing them on their name. At some point, it will click and they will start to create their name, it just may take some time. Every kiddo is different, so just keep trying!
