Fine Motor Indoor Snowmen

My littles love the snow and are so excited that we live in a place that gets plenty of it throughout the winter! However, we are part way through January and we have yet to get snow that sticks around for more than a few days…puzzling for sure! Because my littles are itching to build a snowman and we don’t have the ability to do so outside yet; I decided to throw together this fun indoor snowman set up for them!

How To

This activity is so simple, it almost doesn’t need to be explained! But I’ll walk you through what I did, wink wink.

1. Start by drawing a different snowman face on each round label. They can be as detailed or simple as you’d like! I chose to vary my snowman emotions so we could discuss how each snowman was feeling. It is a great opportunity to sneak in some conversation focused on emotions!

*If your kiddos are school-aged, I would recommend letting them draw the faces. It would be a great opportunity for them to get creative, practice some fine motor skills and use that imagination! Since my cuties are only 3 and 5, detail work doesn’t hold their attention for very long, so I decided to have the faces pre-drawn for them.

2. Now that all of your faces are drawn, roll out that paper and create some bodies! Make as many as you want! Our labels had 20 per page, so I decided to stick with 20 snowman. It was a lot for my littles, but kept Mr. 5 engaged for quite some time. Mr. 3 came in and out of the activity (completely normal for that age).

3. Once your snowmen bodies are drawn, add the label sheet and some markers, then invite your kiddos to come and create!

This super simple activity was a huge hit with my kiddos! They spent the longest time decorating each little snowman and creating stories with them. The best part? This took me 5 minutes to set up (and, only because I drew the faces!) and kept my littles engaged for ages!
